“Cleanliness is a state of purity, clarity, and precision.”
Suze Orman, an American personal finance expert, properly summed up the value of the work Nombuso Sibiya provides for the Quarphix family. She plays an integral part in our professional lives. She keeps the space where we carry out our lives’ work spick-and-span.
In essence, she helps us look presentable and experience the unlimited joy of living and serving our clients in an orderly environment. She joined Quarphix in May 2018. We’re celebrating two years as colleagues.
To have Nombuso as part of Quarphix, we have a friend of hers to thank for sending her our way. The friend spotted the opportunity when we moved in to the office we currently occupy. She informed her about it and also forwarded one of the leaders at Quarphix Nombuso’s contact details. We made contact and that’s how this story began.
In the previous two years that we’ve been working together, Nombuso’s major highlight was when the team celebrated Heritage Day 2018. A lot of fun was had and it was truly an amazing experience for everyone and the team got to know each other better – outside the confines of the office, to-do lists and deadlines. It’s incredible how a team activity such as visiting the zoo like we did that day can inspire colleagues to share life experiences and open up to each other.
And of course, life serves up incredible moments like the one described above and it also finds a way to balance things out with a fair share of lowlights. Nombuso’s came in the form of people who never display courtesy for her work. More often than not, it’s the children who find the building’s bathrooms spotless and leave them in quite a state. Initially, Nombuso concedes that that used not sit well with her. However, now, she deals with that part of her job by reminding herself that they’re only children, just like her own children.
That simple realisation transformed her thought process. She says, “I tell my self that they are kids just like my kids. So I shouldn’t forget that it’s my job to take care of them.”
“My favourite thing about being a Quarnede is that you work with a pure heart. No one follows you around, shouting at you. When I do my job, I do it freely.”
Part of the reason we’ve seen the need to document and tell the stories of our people is that it provides insight into how our team members feel about working with us. It’s also a great way to learn where people’s headspaces are.
On of the most important things for Quarphix is building a working environment where people can share ideas with and help each other. So we asked about what’s the best piece of advice Nombuso has ever received from the office and it goes, “Even if the going gets tough, never ever give up. Keep pushing until you make it”.
Our major highlight as a business is working with an individual such as Nombuso who doesn’t find it hard to keep herself engaged in her work. She says about it, “Well, I try and not think of it as work, but as part of my life. I love my job. I don’t think I need motivation to be interested in it.”
