The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA): VPN/MPLS Design Implementation and Support

The NYDA’s organisation’s mandate focuses on the addressing youth challenges, through development and undertaking of programmes that will allow youth to improve their livelihoods, through socio-economic participation.

To deliver on its mandate, the Agency must ensure the network infrastructure can provide a robust, reliable, redundant, secure, future-proof and flexible network, with the ability for national scaling.

In March 2017, NYDA awarded the contract to Quarphix, which runs over three (3) years, in excess.

Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) has simplified the way the NYDA manages its applications by providing a single identity system for cloud and on-premises applications. Quarphix was able to add software as a service (SaaS) applications, on-premises applications, and line of business (LOB) apps to Azure AD. NYDA internal and external users could sign in once to securely and seamlessly access these applications, along with Office 365 and other business applications from Microsoft and stakeholder vendors.

Outcomes

Quarphix has to date, delivered while enabling the NYDA to directly benefit from:

  • All branches have a standardized WI-Fl infrastructure, POPIA compliant policies, processes and procedures for enhanced management, monitoring and reporting.
  • The Agency has achieved 48% monthly savings since the inception of the Quarphix contract in April 2017 – this has therefore translated to a nominal saving of R21 375 000 to date.
  • The impressive outcome is the efficient optimisation and implementation of recommendations post three (3) national audits as per identified process gaps from the DMAIC approach that enables the NYDA to realize mission-critical cost reductions and efficiencies from the Quarphix team compliance-driven performance culture.

Quarphix continues to provide monitoring, support, maintenance and reporting of the infrastructure and POPI related processes, which have contributed to turning around the NYDA IT landscape, generating a positive impact on the staff and community stakeholders in general.
